…not so much.
I know you thought it. So did I. But, alas, we’re both a bit off with that guess. Care to find out about us anyway…?!
The name ‘redseven’ originated from Red7-an events and promotions startup in London, Ontario, focused on students at the University of Western Ontario.
Red7 founders, Jay Hamilton, Chris Reynolds and Dave Nugent, had a fun run at planning memorable parties and creating an enormous community of young, vibrant London party-goers, also known as, Western students.
After graduating, these 3 gems wanted to take the goodwill of ‘Red7′ and its community to a philanthropic level. Inspired by education and motivated to build a socially responsible enterprise, they loaded a number of fine philanthropists on the bus and low and behold…
redseven charitable foundation was born.
And to think this all started in January 2009. Since then, our core team has reached 15 members and redseven has already raised $2,200 for Future Possibilities for Kids. We are proud to have active supporters in Toronto, Vancouver and London. Our hope is to create a nation-wide movement and engage young change-making Canadians from coast to coast, one tweet and blog post at a time.
Why education, you ask?
Members of our team have been inspired by teachers, student leadership, post-graduate education, international travel, sports, and the arts. We feel strongly that education is something that occurs in all sorts of places-not just the classroom
With this in mind, we know that basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills are crucial to the advancement of communities in developing nations. Further, acquiring those skills during childhood will lead to a more peaceful and progressive world.
At this moment, we are blasting off our website and subsequently launching a major campaign: to raise $12,000 to build a school in India. We hope you will flip through the pages of our site and subscribe to our blog in order to contribute and keep tabs on our goal.
redseven is encouraged by the power of young people, harnessed to create change. And that change we seek is one of perspective: we think global education ought to be a right, not just a privilege. Even the United Nations agrees.
And it is our goal to create a community of advocates to rally around this cause. We strive to responsibly create a foundation that empowers youth to change the world through hard work and dedication. Thanks for joining us in this quest.
be redseven,
Sabrina
