Why did you join redseven?

I joined redseven because I felt the need to give something back to a cause that has benefitted me so greatly in my life.  Education has been the cornerstone of every goal I have accomplished and every goal I continue to set.  If I can help give education to those who don’t currently have it, I am confident it will provide nothing but benefit to their lives as well.

When you’re not volunteering with redseven, what do you do with your time?

Most of my time is spent staring into two computer screens as I analyze private equity and infrastructure investments for the OPSEU Pension Trust (OPTrust).  As an Associate Portfolio Manager, I am mainly focused on analyzing, structuring and underwriting new investments, but I also spend some of my time managing our existing portfolio of companies.  If that sounds interesting, you are probably a big nerd like me, so feel free to e-mail me if you would like to know more!

In what little spare time I have from work and redseven, I play sports (hockey and golf …and yes golf is a sport), and watch Modern Family and Seinfeld reruns.

What do you do for the redseven team?

As the Finance Director, I manage the newly created budget while working with other senior members to build out enough corporate donations to sustain our program.

Who is your favourite teacher and why?

My favorite teacher was Mr. Stickney (OAC Calculus and Finite Math) because although his math lessons were disguised as tedious, conceptual frameworks, there were hidden life lessons within.  He pushed me more than any teacher or professor, but always shared in my joy at times when I was successful (albeit few and far between).  His witty and thoughtful sayings such as “Josh, there’s an elephant in your cornflakes, can you see it?” continue to inspire me.

What’s your favourite youtube video?
